If a dishwasher stops in the middle of a cycle, try these troubleshooting steps to determine the cause.

The most common cause is related to the door latch assembly. The door latch is used to hold the door closed during the wash to stop water from leaking. It also contains switches that supply power to the control panel. If the door becomes loose or is not properly latching, the switches will deactivate and turn off power to the control panel. Verify that the door latch assembly is properly connected and plugged into the control panel.

Next, the door catch may be faulty. The door catch works with the door latch assembly to hold the door closed. Physically observe the latch itself to confirm it is firm and attached securely to the tub. Depending on the dishwasher model, the latch may be adjustable. Pull out the dishwasher from the cabinet enough to access the mounting screws. Tighten or adjust as needed.

Finally, the control board itself may be causing the cycle to stop. After verifying both the latch assembly and the door catch are functioning properly, check the control panel connection. This can typically be replaced on its own but, as always, be sure to compare the cost of the part/repair with the age of the unit and the cost of replacement.
